About
Photography has always been part of my life. My father and uncle were both keen amateur photographers and as a child I sat in front rooms watching slide shows of holidays past and present. The light from the projector cut a swathe through clouds of cigarette smoke and frankly created a more interesting display than most of the slides.
I studied photography at the Glasgow College of Printing and for many years worked as a backroom boy in the industry doing everything from film processing and printing to special effects for advertising and eventually high end digital retouching.
Photography is an excellent tool for recording reality but having lived and worked in London for many years my interest in reality has waned somewhat. I had always kept a photographic record of plants and flowers in my garden but at some stage this moved more in the direction of using shapes and colours to create a more abstract effect, without losing the identity of the subject. Most of the flower images here have been produced this way using various camera and lens combinations that have evolved through trial and error.
I hope you enjoy looking at these images. I have tried where possible to use Latin names and the variety if known. If anyone notices a mistake please let me know.
